Introducing Bright Harbor's Grant Finder

Jul 23, 2025

"The application is HOW many questions? For how much money? No, don’t even put it on the spreadsheet."

It’s mid-February, and the Bright Harbor team is trying to do something simple: figure out which of the newly announced grants funded by the FireAid LA concert to send to one of our low-income clients. At first, we planned to just pass along the official directory.

But after a quick glance, we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it.

There’s a public website that lists the grantees. The list is long, but most of the organizations listed don’t offer direct aid to survivors. And the few that do? You often have to know someone personally just to find out an application exists. Even when we could track something down, the eligibility was unclear, the timelines vague, or the application so burdensome that it wasn’t worth asking someone in crisis to attempt.

Staring down a growing list of clients asking the same question—“Is there any help I can actually apply for?”—we knew we needed a better answer.

So we built one.

What the Grant Finder Does

The Bright Harbor Grant Finder is a free, easy-to-use directory of real, active grants that disaster survivors can actually apply for.

We’ve already added 50+ grants, focusing on LA and Texas to start, and we’ll keep updating it as new programs launch.

Why We Built It

Over and over again, we’ve seen survivors miss out on financial help, not because they’re ineligible, but because the information was fragmented, confusing, or buried somewhere no one thought to look.

We’ve spent thousands of hours navigating FEMA, insurance, and obscure disaster funding programs. We know how hard it is to find reliable information, and how disheartening it is to apply for help that never materializes.

This tool was built to cut through the noise, so survivors can figure out what’s real, what’s active, and what’s actually worth applying for.

Who It’s For

If you’ve been through a disaster, or are helping someone who has, this tool is for you.

Whether you lost your home, missed work, dealt with unsafe air, or just need help making ends meet while waiting on insurance or FEMA: there may be funding available, and we want to help you find it.
