Use Amazon’s Black Friday deals to up your disaster preparedness game

Nov 25, 2025

Every year at Thanksgiving, large retailers release thousands of sales to help spur holiday shopping. During these Black Friday events, we here at BrightHarbor say it’s also a great time to figure out what kinds of emergency supplies you need so you can fill in any gaps while saving a few bucks in the process. For electronics, Amazon’s Black Friday always offers deep discounts to help you be better prepared for the unexpected.

Here is a list of our suggested items to keep inside your home, perhaps in a closet somewhere, to help you deal with any kind of future emergency.

Backup batteries

Small, portable backup batteries about the size of a shoebox are a great way to keep phones charged for multiple days in an emergency, helping you stay in communication with family and up to date on evacuation orders. You can also power all sorts of home appliances with these, and as a bonus they’re not only useful for power outages, you can use them for a day at the beach or on camping trips. Popular models from companies like Jackery and EcoFlow can be found at big discounts, often around 50% off during Black Friday, potentially saving you hundreds of dollars.

If you keep one of these plugged in while it sits in your garage or inside a closet, it’ll always be ready the next time you have a power outage. You’ll be surprised how useful they are in that situation, but they’re also great to have around during non-emergencies too.

Rechargeable, high-powered flashlights

LED technology has come very far in recent years and small, powerful, rechargeable flashlights are super affordable these days. Black Friday deals often pop up on any of Amazon’s best sellers so it’s worth doing a few searches for items like these during Black Friday, and you’ll have plenty of light during your next power outage.

Emergency radios

You never know when you’ll need a radio to hear ongoing weather alerts or learn about evacuation plans, so having an emergency radio just in case is another good thing to have around. Bonus: many of these also double as flashlights and as batteries to help charge your devices.

Non-electronics that are also good to have around

While the last things worth mentioning aren’t electronics destined for big Black Friday sales, once you’re in the mindset of upping your readiness and resilience, you might as well round out your “Go Bag” with the following items.

  • Emergency water filtration is useful because in the aftermath of a hurricane or tornado, you might not know when or for how long your tap water is unsafe to drink. For those kinds of situations, things like a LifeStraw come in clutch.

  • We’re told to have one gallon of water per person per day in emergencies, but survivors have also told us that in most disasters they had a day or two to prepare before an approaching storm. That’s the perfect time to use things like large, 5 gallon collapsible storage containers so you can fill them up with safe drinking water just before you might need them.

  • When the going gets tougher, it’s always good to have some emergency thermal blankets in a closet somewhere.

  • Freeze-dried meals can last up to 30 years on shelves so it’s always a good idea to have at least a few days worth or a couple weeks worth of emergency food stored somewhere inside your home.

You never know when a fire, hurricane, or other disaster may strike, and everyone should have some emergency supplies around just in case. There’s no better time to save a few bucks than annual Black Friday sales, so we hope these suggestions are useful in helping your family stay safe and comfortable in any sort of future emergencies.
